Dear Sir/ Mamme;

Re: 2009 CSPG Honorary Address -
“Adaptation to Local Environments – Islands of Time”

Presented in association with CSPG Trust Fund, CSEG and APEGGA

The Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), CSPG Educational Trust Fund, The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists (APEGGA) and the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) would like to invite students from Grades 7, 8, and 9 to partake in a morning/afternoon of enlightening science at our 2009 annual Honorary Address presentation. As a society we strive to be topical, and this year’s presentation is no exception.  In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Darwin

Publishing his view of evolution and the 100th Anniversary of the Burgess Shale (Field B.C.), this year’s presentation is headlined by Brian Keating of the Calgary Zoo (and a second speaker to be announced) on November 3rd, 2009.   The presentation will be held at the Jubilee Auditorium with the talk to begin at 11:00am and students boarding their buses between 12:30-1:00pm for a return to their respective schools.

Since 1978 the committee has had a tradition of engaging the general public in topical scientific issues, with a special emphasis on showing children how interesting and exciting science can be. This year we are very pleased to be offering a morning/afternoon show for Calgary schools that will provide an educational field trip for over 2500 children. Response from both parents and teachers to presentations in years past (“Climate Change Past and Present” and “Science of Big Wave Surfing”) has been very positive. We believe this year’s presentation will not disappoint.

The show will be provided at no cost to the schools. Bussing will be provided to schools at a nominal cost to of only $80.00 per bus. Registration will begin at 7:30am on Monday September 7th and will continue until we reach full capacity for the Jubilee Auditorium in a first come first served basis. You will be contacted within 48 hours of your submission. An information package will be mailed out to your school.

If you have any questions regarding the Honorary Address, please feel free to contact me at (403) 294 6404.

Sincerely,
